The first Skinny Boy rightly received rave reviews from the kitesurfing community. It was 2 years in development and testing, with Blade employing the skills of pro-surfer and kiteboarder Stephan De Figueiredo, who added masses of insight into what makes the best surf kite. With the 2nd generation of Skinny Boy the kite has evolved still further - it has been tweaked to maximise performance across the full wind range and give even more direct feedback through the bar. It's still a fast turning kite (but also has a slow setting if needed) and maintains the ability to spill power rapidly. Whilst designed as a dedicated surfers kite, it is also perfect for beginners as it is incredibly stable , has a great wind range and superb relaunch. The Skinny Boy 2nd Generation is the go-to kite if you spend your sessions on a surf board hunting for the perfect wave to rip around those top turns. But it is also suited well to newbies thanks to its ease of use, big wind range, easy relaunch, and great safety system.
Depower on the Skinny Boy is instant and Blade report that a massive 87% of power can be reduced when depowering the kite - a huge plus point for riders wanting to switch off the kite quickly and let their surfboard do its thing or for when beginners want to spill power fast. The kite's power profile ensures it remains stable and in position when riding downwind, which is crucial for most wave riding conditions. An added bonus of this Max Drift feature is that it is more forgiving of the dreaded slack lines scenario when newbies are developing their kite control. This kite also performs very well in light winds and charges upwind better than many kites we have tried so even lighter days can be enjoyed when the water is perfect but the wind is a little lighter than is normally needed. As with all Blade kites, the Skinny Boy is built to take a beating.
Here is the review of the 1st generation from IKsurf Magazine. They absolutely loved it and so much so that editor and one of the worlds most experienced kite reviewers has been using the Skinny boy at his local spot during his non testing days.
